Overview

This 16-day, 15-night safari combines butterfly and bird watching with adventures in the wild and along the beach. Starting in Nairobi, the journey takes you to Lake Naivasha in the Rift Valley, Nyahururu, Mt. Kenya, a tea farm, then via the SGR train to Taita Hills, down to Mombasa, Shimba Hills in the south, and concludes in Watamu. The trip can end in either Nairobi or Mombasa, depending on your flight arrangements.

This trip encourages participation in forest conservation, promoting high biodiversity and endemism.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our representative will meet you and review the itinerary. Depart Nairobi for Limuru ponds, where you may see Maccoa ducks, Southern pochards, Northern shovelers, herons, egrets, Red-knobbed coots, and Moorhens. Proceed to the Rift Valley viewpoint for a panoramic view before heading to Lake Naivasha. The lake's shores and forests are prime birding areas, attracting African Fish Eagles, Goliath Herons, Jacanas, Kingfishers, Spoonbills, Little Grebes, Maccoa Ducks, African Darters, and Saddle-billed Storks. Enjoy a boat ride on the lake.
After lunch at the lodge, visit Hell's Gate National Park, known for its cliffs that serve as nesting areas for raptors like the Black Eagle, Augur Buzzard, and Schallow’s Wheatear. You can opt for a geothermal spa or rock climbing within the park. Return to the lodge for dinner and an evening at leisure.

After breakfast, drive two hours through Gilgil to Lake Ol’ Bolossat in Nyandarua. Take a guided walk along the lake, enjoying the scenery, wildlife, and bird watching. Return to the camp for lunch and continue exploring in the afternoon.

After breakfast, embark on a three-and-a-half-hour drive through Nyandarua town, Ndaragua, Lamuria, and Naro Moru to Mt. Kenya National Park. After lunch, take a game drive for bird watching and wildlife viewing. Return to the lodge for dinner and an evening at leisure.

After breakfast, drive three and a half hours through Nyeri, Makuyu, and Thika to Nairobi. After lunch, visit Kiambethu Tea Farm, where you will learn about tea processing and its traditional uses. Walk through the tea plantations and forests, observing Colobus monkeys and birds. Depart for the Carnivore restaurant for dinner and then transfer to your hotel.

After an early breakfast, take the SGR train to Voi. Upon arrival, our representative will transfer you to the lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. Return to the lodge for dinner and an evening at leisure.

After breakfast, visit Chaiwa Forest for a butterfly project tour. Taita Hills host endemic butterfly species and a butterfly farming project. Return to the lodge for lunch and an afternoon at leisure, followed by an evening game drive.

After breakfast, drive to Mombasa, arriving in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon at leisure, enjoying water activities or the beach.

After breakfast, tour Mombasa, including Fort Jesus and the Mombasa Butterfly House. After lunch, visit Haller Park, a natural recreation ground with diverse vegetation and wildlife. Return to the hotel for dinner and an evening at leisure.

Spend the day at the hotel, engaging in water sports or relaxing at the beach.

After breakfast, drive two hours to Shimba Hills National Reserve. After lunch, take an afternoon game drive. The park is a birding hotspot and home to the Sable antelope and African Elephants. Return to the lodge for dinner and an evening at leisure.

After breakfast, drive four hours to Watamu. The area is known for birding, with species such as the Western Reef Heron and Lesser Crested Tern. Arrive in time for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure.

After breakfast, drive 30 minutes to Arabuko Sokoke National Park, home to 20% of Kenya’s bird species and 30% of its butterfly species. The park supports butterfly farming, promoting conservation. Return to the hotel for lunch and an afternoon at leisure.

After breakfast, visit Mida Butterfly Farm, specializing in breeding local butterflies for export. Return to the hotel for lunch, then visit the Coral Garden in Malindi Marine Park for a glass-bottom boat ride and other water activities. Return to the hotel for dinner and an evening at leisure.
