Itinerary

4-Hour Drive
Meals: Lunch & Dinner

7:00 am Your Africa Kenya Safaris driver/guide will pick you up at the location of your choice – hotel, residence, or airport. Hop into your private 4 x 4 Landcruiser Safari Jeep to begin this three-day adventure on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

We’ll arrive at the rolling hills of Tsavo West, a park known for its great herds of elephants but also unusual numbers of rhinos thanks to the Ngulia Rhino sanctuary. It’s home to over 80 of these fierce looking but really rather gentle animals.

Another standout attraction is the oasis of Mzima Springs, a verdant haven of exotic birds, fish, crocodiles, and hippos. We can hop out of our Jeep here and explore by foot the area’s vegetated shores and local wildlife.

From its rolling hills and volcanic artifacts to its acacia woods and even rugged desert, Tsavo West is a treat for the senses.

After a full day exploring the park, it’s time to rest up and have dinner at your safari lodge or tented camp.

One-Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Let’s get up early to take advantage of the dawning day. We’ll head out on a morning game drive over to sister park, Tsavo East. During the short journey, you may have opportunities to spot some of the big game that make these parks famous.

Settle into your new accommodation and then we’ll hop into our Jeep to discover this amazing park. You can’t help but notice the rosy-hued oxide soil here. It’s a favorite of the big elephants who like to roll in it and parade about in their new red coats.

At the park’s Galana River, a busy watering hole, you’ll be looking for hippo, crocodile, plus other inhabitants like waterbuck. Two of Tsavo’s signature attractions are Mudanda Rock and the Aruba dam, natural spots for wildlife, especially elephants who come here to quench themselves.

Like its sister park, Tsavo East is known for some outstanding volcanic formations like the Yatta Plateau, a 300 km (186 mi) solidified lava flow, the longest in the world.

We’ll return to your Tsavo East accommodation for dinner and rest.

Approx. two-hour train ride
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

It’s our third safari day and time for a final game drive through the park. Look for the tall giraffes extending their necks way above the bush and perhaps a lion spotting or two.

However, on our trip to the coast, there will still be maybe more opportunities to spot Tsavo’s wildlife from your train – the Madaraka Express. We’ll head over to the train station at Voi where your guide will make sure you are safely boarded in first-class.

This high-speed train is built for air-conditioned comfort with soft reclining seats. The large picture windows will provide colorful vistas of Tsavo East’s great plains and wildlife.

Should you be hungry or want to stretch your legs, visit the buffet car for drinks and snacks. You’ll soon arrive at the modern train station in Mombasa.

From Nairobi to the coast via Jeep, train, and two of Kenya’s finest parks. We hope you enjoyed this road and rail adventure.
