5 Day Amboseli & Masai Mara Safari Tour

Overview

Embark on an epic five-day safari journey through Kenya’s iconic wildlife destinations. From the vast plains of the Masai Mara, renowned for its Big Five game and the thrilling Great Migration, to the breathtaking landscapes of Amboseli National Park, with its majestic elephants and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, this adventure promises unforgettable encounters. Immerse yourself in the heart of Africa, experience the magic of the savannah, and conclude your journey with a relaxing train ride to the paradise of the Kenyan coast.

Itinerary

5-6 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

5:00 am – We’re starting this safari early so we’ll have lots of time at the park. Your driver/guide will swing by your hotel, residence, the airport, or the place of your choice for the pre-dawn departure. Hop into your private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep and we’ll head down the highway, stopping in the town of Narok to watch the dawning light as we enjoy breakfast.

Then it’s on to the Masai Mara. En route look for Maasai herders shepherding their flocks and view the Great Rift Valley scenery all about.

We should arrive at the park around mid-morning. You’ll settle into your safari lodge or tented camp and perhaps have a bite of lunch before going for your first game drive.

As your guide takes you over the park’s vast expanses, past its iconic acacia trees, you’ll know you’re in one of Africa’s premier wildlife habitats. The Mara is known throughout the world for its abundant sightings of big cats, elephants, wildebeest, zebra, and never-ending smaller game.

Toward evening, we’ll head back to our accommodation for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Over breakfast, we’ll make plans for the day. What areas of the park would you like to visit? Which wildlife are you looking for? Your guide will share his expertise to make the most of this busy day.

We may make our way to the Mara River, the site of the animal crossing during the Great Migration. During the season (July – October) prepare to witness thousands of wildebeests and zebras storming in. Waiting for them in the river are hordes of crocodiles and then welcoming them into the Mara – lions, leopards, cheetahs, and other smaller predators.

This is the natural world playing out in its endless cycles.

While at the Mara, you may want to enhance your holiday with a visit to the local Maasai people. An optional trip to their nearby village will bring you face to face with these indigenous people and their culture.

For a spectacular Mara adventure, go for the optional hot air balloon safari over the park. Imagine, literally rising with the sun as the reserve below comes alive with the golden light and wildlife. It’s an experience you won’t find elsewhere. Your guide can make all the arrangements.

Approx. 8-9 Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

We’ll have an early breakfast to fortify us for the big drive ahead. As we exit the Mara, we’ll enjoy one last game drive through the sumptuous park.

Approaching Amboseli, you’re certain to see the towering form of Mt. Kilimanjaro looming up ahead. We should get to the park in the late afternoon and take our first game drive here.

You won’t have to look hard or far to spot Amboseli’s signature free-ranging elephants. And wherever you go in the park, great Kilimanjaro will be there showing off its photographic flanks.

As evening approaches, we’ll head to our new accommodations. The cloud cover that often obscures Kilimanjaro’s summit may break, revealing its snow-capped peak.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

We’ll be up early to see this picturesque park come alive. Then we’ll head back for breakfast. This is a day of unlimited game drives but you can also kick back at your safari lodge or tented camp if you choose. Just discuss with your guide the kind of day you would prefer.

As we ramble about the park in our 4 x 4, keep an eye out for the big game – Amboseli is home to Africa’s “Big Five” – but also smaller fascinating species like hyena, fox, jackal, monkey, and baboon.

We may also visit a pyramid-shaped rise called Observation Hill. This is a great place to stretch and take in views of the park, its marshes, lakes, and the stunning form of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

We’ll spend our fourth safari night relaxing at your accommodation.

Approx. 4.5 hours by train
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

It’s our fifth and last day on safari, so let’s enjoy a final game drive through this scenic park (depending on the location of your safari lodge / Tented Camp) We’ll take in Kilimanjaro once more as we head to the train station at Emali.

And here’s another bonus: your train will take you through the great plains of Tsavo West and Tsavo East Parks with the possibility of viewing more wildlife.

At the train station, your guide will assist with your ticketing, ensuring you’re comfortably aboard. Settle into your air-conditioned first-class seat as you watch the parks fly by. In just a few hours you’ll arrive in Mombasa. This high-speed train is built for air-conditioned comfort with soft reclining seats. Your large picture windows will provide colorful vistas of the parks and their wildlife.

Should you be hungry or want to stretch your legs, visit the buffet car for drinks and snacks. You’ll soon arrive at the modern train station in Mombasa.

Five full days of non-stop safari action. From world-famous parks to world-famous beaches. We hope you had a blast and collected incredible moments and memories.
