Itinerary
4-Hour Drive
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
7:30 am You’ll begin your adventure as your driver/guide swings by your hotel or residence in a private, 4 x4 Land Cruiser Jeep. Hop in and let’s rumble down the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway to the park.
Along the way, you’ll head into the African savanna and possibly view Maasai herders shepherding their cattle.
Before too long you’ll see the great form of Mt. Kilimanjaro rising in the distance, guiding our way. We’ll arrive at the park late morning and head to our safari lodge or tented camp for lunch before heading out for the first game drive.
Amboseli is known for being perhaps the best place in Africa for viewing elephants up close. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to see them as well as lion, leopard, zebra, buffalo, gazelle, cheetah, ostrich, and warthog.
But wherever you go in the park, you can’t miss all 19,000 feet of Kilimanjaro standing sentry over the wildlife, a photographic icon you’ll be drawn to again and again.
If we’re lucky, the clouds obscuring the mountain’s peak will part revealing one of Africa’s treasures.
Your first safari night will be spent at Amboseli, at the lodge, or tented camp of your choice.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
We’ll be up early to continue our exploration of the park as the morning light welcomes us and the wildlife. Besides the larger species, we will also be looking for active smaller animals like hyena, fox, jackal, monkey, baboon.
Observation Hill is a favorite lookout over the park’s marshes and all the wildlife they support.
A favorite activity here is an optional visit to a local Maasai village. Meet with these indigenous people, learn about their ancient herding culture, and perhaps visit their homes.
Now it’s your choice of a Tsavo Park – East or West.
Tsavo East- This is a huge park of rugged terrain but busy with wildlife. A great way to spot that wildlife is by visiting the known watering holes like Aruba Dam . The elephants and other thirsty animal populations flock here to slake their thirst.
During your three-day safari be sure to talk to your safari guide about the park, the wildlife, and any special requests you may have.
Sunsets are special at Tsavo East and you’ll enjoy yours as you head back to your new accommodation here to spend the evening.
Or, you can choose to visit Tsavo West
Tsavo West is easy on the eyes with its rolling green hills, woodlands, and riverine forest. After settling in at your new accommodation we’ll head out to look for lion, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, zebra, ostrich, and more.
We’ll also visit the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, home to over 80 of the endangered species, where you’ll get a chance to see these curious animals.
This diverse park is punctuated by exotic baobab trees and ancient solidified lava flows. Perhaps most unique of all is the presence of Mzima Springs, an unexpected oasis of greenery, fish, and birds. Here, we’ll also find crocodiles and hippos swimming in an immense pool.
We’ll wind up our second safari day at our Tsavo West Accommodation.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
From Tsavo East:
We’ll take a final game drive through the park looking to spot any wildlife we may have missed. Then it’s on to the train station at Mtito Andei or Voi to board the Madaraka Express to the Kenya Coast.
This high-speed train is built for air-conditioned comfort with soft reclining seats. Your large picture windows will provide colorful vistas of Tsavo East’s great plains and its wildlife.
Should you be hungry or want to stretch your legs, visit the buffet car for drinks and snacks. You’ll soon arrive at the modern train station in Mombasa.
What a great way to experience Africa – a private 4 x 4 Jeep to active and scenic parks and then a bonus rail safari to finish up at the beautiful Kenya coast.
