Itinerary
4-Hour Drive
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
7:00 am We’ll be over early to pick you up at your hotel, residence, the airport, or another place of your choosing. Hop into your private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep for the ride to Amboseli.
For the next few hours, we’ll pass local farms and you may spot Maasai herdsmen in their colorful shukas, tending to their flocks. Soon, rising in the distance like a welcoming beacon we’ll spot the towering form of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Arriving at Amboseli, settle in and refresh at your safari lodge or tented camp. We’ll enjoy lunch and then strike out to explore this popular park, with its great elephant herds and other big game.
Besides lion and leopard, we’ll be looking for Maasai giraffe, hyena, fox, jackal, monkey, gazelle, cheetah, and baboon. This smallish park is sparsely vegetated and that makes the animal spotting that much easier. You’ll appreciate how active and varied your sightings will be.
As mentioned, you can take an optional visit to a local Maasai village to meet the indigenous people of the area and partake of their crafts and handiwork. Your guide will be happy to make all the arrangements.
Toward evening we’ll head back to your accommodation and if the cloud cover toward the peak of Kilimanjaro clears we might get a glimpse of its famous snow-capped summit.
We’ll relax over dinner and swap tales of our first day on safari.
2 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
We’ll be up with the elephants to catch the early morning light and maximize our time at Amboseli. After the game drive, we’ll enjoy breakfast and then grab our bags for the quick trip to Tsavo West.
The park’s rolling hills will greet us at this second of our three-park safari. The landscape here is a curious mix of savannah, volcanic forms, towering ornate baobab trees, and an unexpected green oasis.
Besides lions, leopards, elephants, and buffalo, we may also find endangered rhinos here, especially at the Ngulia Rhino sanctuary, home to over 80 of these curious creatures.
Your expert guide will also direct you to areas where we’ll look for bush baby, dik-dik, impala, monkeys, and even yellow baboons. The varieties are endless at Tsavo West.
Our second evening will be spent here at your Tsavo West accommodation.
2 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Lots to do and see today so we’ll get started with an early breakfast and game drive. Our first destination? Mzima Springs, the park’s flourishing green oasis where we’ll discover a different sort of wildlife.
Stepping from our Jeep we’ll explore on foot the richly vegetated shores filled with fish and exotic birds – goshawks, ostriches, kingfishers, and herons. And you won’t have to go far to spot crocodiles and hippos.
Soon it’s time to pile into the 4 x 4 and head over to one of Kenya’s largest parks, Tsavo East. Its red rusty soil is a big attraction for the many elephants who enjoy taking their daily dust bath.
The big park features some attractive watering holes like the Aruba dam on the Voi River and Mudanda Rock. These are both great spots to view the thirsty wildlife who come to drink on the otherwise dry terrain.
Your guide will share his vast knowledge of the park and its wildlife during your four-day safari. Ask him anything – he’s sure to have an answer and will probably share some fun stories as well.
We’ll look for one of Africa’s dazzling sunsets as we make our way to our third accommodation here at Tsavo East, where we’ll relax and spend the evening.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
It’s our last safari day so let’s take a final drive in the park and look for some more wildlife.
However, there will be additional opportunities for animal spotting on our way to the coast on the Madaraka Express.
We’ll load up the 4 x 4 for the trip to the nearby train station at Voi. There, your guide will make sure you are safely boarded in first-class.
This high-speed train is built for air-conditioned comfort with soft reclining seats. Your large picture windows will provide colorful vistas of Tsavo East’s great plains and its wildlife.
Should you be hungry or want to stretch your legs, visit the buffet car for drinks and snacks. You’ll soon arrive at the modern train station in Mombasa.
Four days, three of Kenya’s most active parks, and lots and lots of animal sightings. So many stories and memories to bring with you to the coast and into the future. We hope you had a fantastic adventure with us.
