Itinerary

5-6 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

5:00 am – This is the safari hour – up early to make the most of the day. Your driver/guide will come to your hotel, residence, airport, or the place of your choice to begin your road trip. Step into your private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep and we’ll head down the highway, stopping in the charming town of Narok to breakfast and take in the dawn.

Traveling on to the great Masai Mara Reserve, we will enter Maasai country so keep an eye out for the herders tending to their flocks as you enjoy the sights of the Great Rift Valley.

Late morning will find us arriving at the rolling hills and deep savannahs of the world-famous park. We’ll settle into our accommodation or perhaps just take off on the first of many game drives over our three-day span in the park.

The Mara is well-known for a reason: it is one of the densest ecosystems in the region, alive with big cats, elephants, buffalo, rhinos, and dozens of other hunter and grazer species filling its fields and forests.

Toward evening you may get to view one of the park’s spectacular sunsets as you head back to your safari lodge or tented camp for dinner and relaxation.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

We have a full day of game drives before us. Talk with your guide about what wildlife you’d like to see and which areas of the park will make that happen. But no matter where your game drives take you, you won’t go long without making some exciting animal sightings.

The Mara River can be an especially exciting spot to visit. This is where the wildebeests and zebras cross over from the Serengeti, and from July through October, their numbers swell during the Great Migration. Expect to see thousands of frenzied animals make the crossing, trying to escape the clutches of the crocodiles waiting for them.

We offer several optional activities to enhance your time in the park. For a fascinating cultural moment, visit a nearby Maasai village. There, you’ll get to meet the local people, view their homes, and learn about their ancient lifestyle, raising their goats and cattle.

If you’d like to see the park from above with its great trains of wildlife, we suggest an optional early morning balloon safari. You’ll rise into the new day, sailing with the wind as the sun lights up the park and its inhabitants. A beautiful moment in time, never to be forgotten.

Approx. 4 ½ Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Good morning to our third day in the park. We’ll take another game drive, perhaps going to a favorite spot, before heading out for the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha.

This unusual freshwater lake will see us on a sailing safari, smiling at the nearby hippos and waving to the wildlife on the shore.

Next, we’ll take a guided walking safari at neighboring Crescent Island Game Sanctuary, taking in the shore birds and getting close to the preserve’s buffalo, antelope, and zebra.

Rounding out this day of unusual safaris, a trip to nearby Hell’s Gate National Park will land us on bicycles if we wish, pedaling past the park’s impala, gazelle, and giraffe. What a varied and different type of safari day!

We will spend the evening at our Lake Naivasha accommodation.

5 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

We’ll bid goodbye to the Naivasha area as we move on to Amboseli Park. You’ll know you’re getting close to the reserve when you see the iconic snow-capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Arriving at the park, you can’t miss spotting the many herds of free-ranging elephants that are a signature of this popular reserve. Get ready for lots of picture taking – between the elephants, Mt. Kilimanjaro, and the park’s bountiful wildlife and birdlife, you’ll have no shortage of subjects.

As evening approaches, the mists hovering around Kilimanjaro’s peak may disperse, providing us with a stunning view of Africa’s tallest summit.

Dinner and rest tonight will be at our Amboseli accommodation.

Approx. 4 ½ Hours by train
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch,

Our final day on safari and we’ll take just one more drive around the park for any last-minute sightings.

Then, it’s on to the Emali train station for a smooth, air-conditioned ride to the coast. And here’s another bonus: your train will be traveling through two more legendary parks Tsavo West and Tsavo East.

At the Emali train station, your guide will make sure you are ticketed and comfortably seated on the state-of-the-art Madaraka Express, the high-speed train to the coast. Of course, your first-class seat is included with your tour.

The train’s right-of-way is elevated, so you’ll have big picture-window views of the parks as you take in their vast landscapes.

The train also offers a buffet car for drinks and snacks. In just 4 ½ hours you’ll arrive at the modern train station in Mombasa.
Going on to Diani, Watamu, or Malindi? No problem. Meeting you at the station, a driver will bring you to the hotel or resort of your choice.
