Itinerary
5 – 6 Hour Drive
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
7:30 am Your driver/guide will swing by your hotel, residence, or place of your choosing to get this safari going! Hop into your private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep and take off for Masai country. As you head to the Mara, you’ll pass small homesteads and travel through the Great Rift Valley with its massive and stunning escarpment.
We’ll arrive at the park in time for lunch. Settle in at your accommodation and get ready for the first of your many game drives.
Nature built this park to impress with its golden savannahs and perfect views throughout. You’ll journey over its hills tracking big cats, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebra, and much more.
And if we miss anything today, tomorrow is a gift of all-day safari watching.
You’ll spend your first evening relaxing at your safari lodge or tented camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Besides a world of big cats, the Masai Mara is also famous for a natural phenomenon known as the Great Migration. This is the yearly trek of millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles crossing from the Serengeti over the Mara River into the park in search of more abundant vegetation.
The sight of these great herds streaming into the Mara is unlike anything else on the planet.
We’ll go down to the Mara River to view the crossings which are especially dense during the season (July – October). Anticipating these endless hordes of grazers bounding into the park are plentiful crocodiles submerged in the river and a full range of predators lying in wait throughout the bush.
This timeless cycle is a scene of raw nature in full display.
Adding extra memories to your time in the park you can take an optional visit to the local Maasai people in their nearby village. This is a great opportunity to meet the Maasai and learn about their ancient herding culture.
For an unforgettable moment to highlight your safari adventure, we can arrange an optional pre-dawn balloon safari over the park. As the sun rises and the light breaks across the land, you’ll witness the Mara come alive. Your guide can make all the arrangements.
Approx. 4-hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Today we’ll expand our horizons and head back north through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha. We’ll stop along our route for breaks and admire the valley’s towering escarpments.
Lake Naivasha is a high-altitude lake home to migratory birds, hippos, and plenty of grazers along the shoreline. We’ll enjoy a boating safari across the lake, gently sailing by the hippos with views of nearby zebra, antelope, buffalo, and giraffe.
The park is a small treasure of waterfalls, escarpments, acacia forests, and more grazing wildlife.
The surrounding entire area is a collection of similarly protected natural parks and we’ll take advantage of their proximity with a quick journey to nearby Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. This is a small, quiet private reserve where we can enjoy a guided walking safari past waterbuck, zebra, gazelle, with views of pelicans and cormorants.
We’ll relax at our Lake Naivasha accommodation.
5 – 6 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Let’s try to fit in one more walking tour or game drive before setting out to Amboseli National Park.
Well before we arrive at the park, we’ll get a sign of its proximity by the spire of world-famous Mt. Kilimanjaro rising in the distance. Amboseli rests near the base of the great mountain, which forms a towering presence wherever you roam in the park.
This very popular reserve is a delight with its roaming big game but especially its free-ranging elephants. Known throughout the region if not the world for these numbers of tall majestic creatures, you will see families of them traveling to and from their waterholes throughout the day.
We’ll spend the evening at our third accommodation here in the park.
2-hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Let’s rise with the birds for one more game drive through the park and some elephant sightings before we depart for Tsavo West.
It’s an easy two-hour drive to the legendary park. Tsavo West offers us new varieties of landscapes with its green rolling hills, odd baobab trees, and striking verdant green oases.
We’ll be looking for lions but also giraffe, buffalo, hartebeest, the little dik-dik, monkeys, and baboons. This is a very different sort of park.
Visiting Mzima Springs, we can hop out of our 4 x 4 and explore this lush oasis on foot. Look for exotic birds, fish, crocodiles, and hippos. There’s even an underwater viewing space to watch the hippos swim – sort of an underwater ballet.
This evening we’ll settle into our Tsavo safari lodge or tented camp to relax and enjoy our final safari night.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
We’ll be up for another short game drive before departing for the train station at Mtito Andei. But you’ll get more safari viewing from your train – the Madaraka Express – that takes us through Tsavo West and Tsavo East Parks as we head to the Kenya Coast.
At the train station, your guide will assist with your ticketing, ensuring you’re comfortably onboard. Settle into your air-conditioned first-class seat as you watch the parks fly by. In just a few hours you’ll arrive in Mombasa.
