Itinerary
5 – 6 Hour Drive
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
7:30 am Let’s start our adventure in style – a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. Your Africa Kenya Safaris driver/guide will pick you up at your hotel, residence, or place of your choosing.
We’ll head to the Masai Mara passing fields and homesteads, traveling over the floor of the Great Rift Valley and coming upon its towering escarpments.
This is Masai country, and you just might see the herders in their colorful shukas, shepherding their cattle.
Arriving at the park, take some time to settle into your safari lodge or tented camp and enjoy lunch.
Then, it’s time to pack into your 4 x 4 and head out to explore this vast and busy park.
During your six-day adventure look to your guide to share his expertise about the parks, the land, and the wildlife. He’s sure to have great ideas and fun stories to share.
The Mara is a land of over 95 animal species so be on the lookout for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and so much more.
Toward evening we’ll return to our accommodation for dinner and relaxation.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
We’ll be up early to enjoy a Mara sunrise and the first stirrings of the park’s many denizens. This is a day of unlimited game drives. Or you can also choose some relaxing time. It’s up to you.
Either way, there’s so much to see in the hills, savannahs, and woods of this awesome park.
Have you heard of the Great Migration? It’s the largest movement of animals on the planet and it happens right here. Every year (July – October) millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles head across the Mara River from the Serengeti into the Mara, searching for more abundant vegetation.
Welcoming them are crocodiles in the river and predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and more. We will visit the Mara, site of this crossing, and witness this timeless cycle of nature play out before us.
To fully round out your Masai Mara experience, you can take an optional trip to a local village. There, you’ll meet the Maasai people and learn firsthand about their culture and ancient herding lifestyle.
Want to really up your African safari? Your guide can arrange for an optional early morning balloon safari over the park. Imagine rising with the sun as the Mara comes to life, the golden light spreading over the rich plains as the wildlife fills the fields. Not to be missed!
We’ll spend our second safari evening at your Masai Mara accommodation.
6 – 7 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Along our route, we’ll be making stops to stretch, eat, and enjoy the scenery.
Lake Nakuru Park is a compact but very pretty and active place. The lake itself shows off all sorts of birdlife like pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostrich, stork, eagles, and sometimes great pink flourishes of flamingoes.
You’ll also see endangered species like Rothschild’s Giraffe and white rhinos. Look for them gently grazing along the lake’s shoreline.
Nakuru also boasts a special sanctuary for the threatened black rhino. In fact, the herd here is one of the largest in Kenya. Not everyone gets to see rhinos on their safari – good thing you came to Nakuru.
We’ll spend the evening at your Nakuru lodge or tented camp.
7–8 - hour drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
We’ll be up early for a game/bird-watching drive through the park before heading out for Amboseli.
This is a healthy but easy drive. On our way, we’ll view the impressive escarpments of the Rift Valley. We’ll make stops to gawk, take pictures, stretch and eat.
As we approach Amboseli, look for the rising spire of Mt. Kilimanjaro beckoning you toward the park.
We’ll get to Amboseli in the afternoon, plenty of time for a game drive before dinner. We might get lucky and see the mountain’s snow-capped peak if the high-altitude cloud covering disperses.
We’re at our third accommodation and we’ll relax with a safari dinner.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
This is a day to be as busy or as relaxing as you desire. Just discuss with your guide how to plan your day and your game drives.
Besides a wealth of great marching elephants, Amboseli is home to all the big game and we’ll be tracking for lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffe, and zebra. And in the mid-sized category, we’ll look for impala, hyena, jackal, monkey, and baboon.
You may notice a pyramid-shaped formation rising from the plain. This is Observation Hill, an excellent spot to get out, stretch and view the park. You’ll spot lots of birdlife below in the marshes like kingfisher, pelican, Egyptian goose, and egret. And of course, you’ll be spotting for elephants as well.
Come evening we’ll return to our accommodation to spend our last safari evening.
4.5 hours by train
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
It’s our final safari day so let’s get ready for our last game drive in the park. Have you spotted zebra, buffalo, or gazelle yet?
Don’t worry, on our train trip to the coast we’ll be traveling through the great plains of Tsavo West and Tsavo East Parks with the possibility of viewing more wildlife. So enjoy your final views of Kilimanjaro as we head to the train station at Emali.
At the station, your guide will assist with your ticketing, ensuring you’re comfortably aboard. Settle into your air-conditioned first-class seat as you watch the parks fly by. In just a few hours you’ll arrive in Mombasa. This high-speed train is built for air-conditioned comfort with soft reclining seats. Your large picture windows will provide colorful vistas of the parks and their wildlife.
Should you be hungry or want to stretch your legs, visit the buffet car for drinks and snacks. You’ll soon arrive at the modern train station in Mombasa.
It was the best of times, and it was the best of Kenya. Three spectacular parks with all the wildlife we could provide. We hope you loved it and all the safari memories you’ll take along with you to share.
